About Vicky Hamilton

Long time Grammy Award-Winning music industry executive and personal manager, Vicky Hamilton has been featured on VH-1s Behind the Music, the BBC series Born To Be Wild, The Golden Age Of American Rock, and Biography Channel documentaries on Guns ‘N’ Roses, Brett Michaels, and Mötley Crüe.

Considered one of the most successful music executives in the industry, Vicky has discovered, developed or managed the careers of Guns ‘N’ Roses, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Faster Pussycat, and many others.

In 1988, David Geffen hired her as A&R executive at Geffen Records, where she stayed until 1992. She has also worked with famed manager Elliot Roberts at Lookout Management/ Vapor Records, before moving to Capitol Records as A&R consultant with longtime friend Gary Gersh.

At the House of Blues after watching Johnny Cash perform, Rick Rubin (Def Jam, American, Columbia Records) suggested she make a record with June Carter Cash. Hamilton shopped June’s demos around to all the major labels but there was a reluctance to sign this country legend. Unperturbed, Vicky started her own label Small Hairy Dog and gave June a label to call home. Her CD, Press On was released in 1999 and earned a Grammy Award in 2000. As Hamilton later stated, “I didn’t plan on starting a record company, I just knew that June’s music needed to be heard.”

Currently, Vicky owns and operates Aesthetic V Management and Productions, which represents and develops bands, artists, and special projects. Her new documentary, Until The Music Ends, is currently in production, and features Slash. Her two feature length scripts, Metal Maven and Gothic City are also complete and currently being shopped. Glitter Beach, a glam rock surf musical she co-wrote is in development, and has secured Hollywood “It” boy director, Daniel Henning.

Vicky Hamilton’s book, Appetite For Dysfunction, is out now and available on this website and on Amazon!

About 222

222 is Jade Howard and Dennis Hamlin. The duo wrote and recorded the songs on their debut CD, Libretto, in their home studio, with the only other credit on the album going to Frank Rosato who mixed the record.

Howard and Hamlin are both prolific songwriters drawing musical influences from books, movies, and life experiences. Their first, “One Night Stand.” is loosely based on the Edgar Allen Poe story the Tell Tale Heart. The collection of songs on Libretto play much like an opera in that every song is a story. But don’t let the opera reference fool you, the album is a collection songs that will move and groove you from start to finish.

222’s creativity pours into all aspects of their artistic expression. The provocative self- produced videos made in support of Libretto are truly mini movies and the perfect visual companions to the songs featured on the album. Videos for “One Night Stand,” “Headcake,” and the lyric video for “Fair Weather Send Off” can be seen on the band’s YouTube Channel. 222 will soon debut the newest video “Pick Up Line.”

Respected music blogs DeliMagazine.com and LABuzzBands.com have both highlighted 222’s unique sound and songwriting talent. Their high energy live shows have built a strong following across the U.S. via a string of well attended club dates including a successful gig at the Red Gorilla Fest in Austin, TX. The band’s growing popularity is also due to airplay of the single “One Night Stand” on influencer radio stations such as KROQ in Los Angeles.

Catch 222 live in Los Angeles on June 15th at Boardner’s Club Moscow and in Houston on June 23, 24 and 25 at Warehouse Live. For more info visit 222’s website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube channel.

Since relocating from the UK to the sun and melody soaked streets of Los Angeles a few years ago, the band have been mainstays of the LA alt-rock circuit, with regular shows at venues like The Troubadour, Roxy, and the Satellite. Charming Liars have also seen success south of the border, with performances and radio play in Mexico and Brazil, where they have forged a devoted following. With the new record and an upcoming North American tour with Blaqk Audio and Night Riots, the band are hoping to bring some of that success back north of the border. About Shana Halligan

Back To Me is the new album from sultry songstress Shana Halligan. Smart and sexy, the 13-track album challenges pre-conceived notions of pop music, as Shana mixes her trip-hop background with downtempo, electronic-charged modern jazz. (Check out the album in its entirety here.)

“This album is about love, loss, finding my way to happiness and peace, finding strength, owning and accepting my passion, my humanness, feeling weak, and feeling strong again,” says Shana. “Eroticism, vulnerability, fear, and the deepest gratitude I can imagine. Connection, expression and art. Saying goodbye to anyone who thought I couldn’t make it and not being afraid to let go, to just be me and all that comes with it.”

During and since her time as the lead singer/songwriter of Bitter:Sweet, Shana Halligan has sold more than 500,000 records and has accumulated over 70 album credits to her name. Other releases from Shana Halligan include her solo debut EP Paper Butterfly and 2012 album Richmond Parade.

She’s also collaborated with many major acts, including writing and recording with Serj Tankian of System Of A Down and Thievery Corporation (co-writing and performing their biggest hit in recent years “Depth Of My Soul”), and has performed at several celebrated venues across the nation, including the Hollywood Bowl, the Royal Albert Hall (London), the Bowery Ballroom (NYC) and the Hotel Cafe (L.A.). Outside of her own music, Halligan also writes for other artists and is developing a TV project that combines her love for music and passion for cooking.

About The Diana DeMuth Band

Diana DeMuth made it to the live shows on The X Factor a few years back and decided singing cover songs just wasn’t the right direction for her. She walked away from the show to continue her pursuit of a career in the music industry, her way. Since then, she has formed a band with some of the industry’s most talented female musicians. Every member of this exceptionally talented all-female band has a star-studded résumé. They are currently working with industry veteran Mick Rossi to release their first EP, titled The Doorway, due out late July.

The Diana DeMuth Band are:

Diana DeMuth (vocals) is a driven 22-year-old singer/songwriter from Concord, Massachusetts who is ready to leave her mark on the music industry. DeMuth is a storyteller whose thoughtful lyrics create endearing and compelling narratives that she brings to life with an earthy voice that is mature beyond her years.

Demuth started writing songs in fifth-grade thanks to the encouragement from her guitar teacher and hasn’t stopped since. She recorded her first EP at only fourteen years old. DeMuth was a 2013 contestant on The X Factor. On a whim, during a layover in Colorado, DeMuth auditioned for the show, eventually making it through to the celebrity judges round in front of Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, and Britney Spears and into the Top 30. DeMuth, being anything but a cover artist, ultimately decided that the show’s vibe didn’t click with her singer/songwriter soul.

During her sophomore year of music college, DeMuth’s free spirit and creativity felt too stifled, and she decided to leave to dedicate herself fully to pursuing her dream. Her priority was to write an album from start to finish and release it on her own, a project called Albuquerque, which became her debut album. The past few months all of her efforts have been working towards the release The Doorway EP with her incredible new full band.

Ariana Powell (lead guitar) is a powerful musician that slays on her solos. Powell has played behind a number of notable artists including Nick Jonas, Will.i.AM, the Black Eyed Peas, Pia Mia, Isac Ellit, Megan Nicole, Dumblonde (Aubrey O’Day and Shannon Bex of Danity Kane) and Tarrayln Ramsey.

Nicole Row (bass) spent last year performing with Kaya Stewart on the 2015 Van’s Warped Tour and recorded bass for Dan Farber’s new solo album.

Shaundrin “Drin” Elliot (keys) is a music composition graduate of the prestigious Birmingham-Southern College. She has performed at numerous music festivals such as SXSW, Deep Ellum Arts Festival, and Dallas Pride, as well as serving as lead accompanist for a special service honoring President Jimmy Carter.

Fer Fuentes (drums) is from Curico, Chili and has performed with many successful musicians including Debbie Gibson, Abraham Laboriel, and Oscar Hernandez.

SG Radio feat. The Curly Wolf

About The Curly Wolf

Diesel fuel, burning tires, and Fernet-Branca — that would be the aroma coming out of your speakers if you could smell the music. The Curly Wolf delivers a hard charging alt-country rock sound that comes from a variety of musical and cultural influences. Cash, Hank, Waylon… Rancid, The Misfits, Queens of The Stone Age… Trucks, Choppers, Vans…these are the common threads that brought these boys together to create an aggressive new music alternative to today’s standard country music.

Born on a Northern California ranch, Grant Benziger picked up the guitar at an early age and quickly developed his skills. He discovered punk and heavy metal through the local skate punk scene and immediately started putting his own bands together. At the ripe age of 14 he was fronting punk bands and playing bars and clubs he normally wouldn’t have been allowed to step foot in as a minor. His diesel-trucking brother soon showed him the ways of traditional and underground country music. Grant instantly took to the sounds of Hank Williams, Pasty Cline, Johnny Cash and many other old-time country legends. This influence began to meld with his current style and he began to develop his own aggressive rocking country sound.

Mike Bouchard spent most of his adolescent and college years in Georgia where he played in local punk and rock bands. In high school he quickly advanced to captain of the drum line, where he developed much of the chops he still uses in the band. After a move to Los Angeles, Mike opened Gasser Lounge in Redondo Beach — the place to go if you like your music loud and your drinks stiff! The bar would later play a key role in the creation and development of The Curly Wolf. Mike’s style is loud and heavy. He is the backbone to The Curly Wolf sound.

Matt Pliskin was born and raised in Los Angeles County’s South Bay. Growing up in an area responsible for bands like Black Flag, The Descendents, Circle Jerks, and Pennywise, Matt couldn’t help but be heavily influenced by the genre. He followed in the footsteps of these influences playing bass in various hardcore punk bands around the South Bay. It was through the sounds of rockabilly and pyschobilly that he realized the power of the upright bass. Matt and Grant attended the same music school in LA, but only linked up after answering an ad Grant posted looking for likeminded musicians. This was the start of The Curly Wolf.

From Nirvana and Metallica to The Wu-Tang Clan and NOFX, Billy’s musical influences run the gamut in punk, metal, and hip-hop. Billy played guitar in local punk and metal bands for over a decade. One day he heard some Bill Monroe and immediately fell in love with the mandolin and became fanatical about learning to master it. As a fan of The Curly Wolf, Billy really wanted to play with the guys, so he offered his services and started joining their set from time to time. It was an immediate and natural fit. He continued to play more and more Curly Wolf shows, so much so that they decided to make it official and the band now had a full time mandolin player. Billy’s aggressive yet beautiful (Mike likes to call it twinkly) sound on the mandolin really rounds out The Curly Wolf sound.

As previously mentioned, Mike’s Gasser Lounge played a key role in the formation of this group. Mike had received a copy of a unique cover Grant and Matt had made of “Die, Die, Die” by The Misfits. Mike instantly loved this version with Grant pickin’ the banjo and Matt slappin’ the upright bass. Mike decided to have them play the third anniversary party for his bar. Instantly a crowd favorite, this was the beginning of not only great new friendships but a new musical movement in the South Bay. Like the legendary punk bands that came before them, The Curly Wolf is rallying against the status quo. They are creating a harder, more aggressive style of country music that pays homage to its roots while trying to push the genre forward.

This Wednesday, August 10th on SuicideGirls Radio, hosts Moxi and Bradley Suicide will be joined by chanteuse, sonic day dreamer, and celebrity yoga instructor Kai Elle, who’ll be talking about her powerful new release, The Dynamo EP.

About Kai Elle

Kai Elle is an independent singer-songwriter, recording artist and celebrity yoga teacher. A “sonic day dreamer” with an other-worldly ability to transcend into heavenly states.

Coming off her recent collaboration with Robbie Williams for her song “Carry On” (which charted internationally) she decided to bring that divine ethereal aspect into a more pop sound.

Continuously battling serious depression, Kai Elle turned to yoga and meditation to keep herself strong and focused. After becoming a certified yoga teacher, she finished writing “Dynamo,” an uplifting song about people needing to cultivate the immeasurable energy from within in order to shine. Kai continues to share her philosophy with various celebrity clients through her yoga teachings while guiding her passion in music.

The Dynamo EP includes the cinematic “St Barths.” While working a sales job, Kai Elle often fantasized about trading places with the jet-setting women she assisted. The video is a cheeky, homage to her days playing dress-up with the apparel while envisioning the glamorous and ‘tres chic’ lifestyle. “St Barths” recently aired on LATV’s The Zoo and was seen by millions of viewers nationwide.

Another powerful, and catchy, pop track is the soon to be released single “The Queen.” “The Wedding Song,” is a processional ballad from the groom’s perspective, a standpoint often overlooked. Last but not least is a more jazz influenced song, dedicated to all the girls Kai has met who had that special something, a uniqueness or quality that gave them the special “it” factor. “It Girl” is a combination of those qualities and put it into a song as if she were one girl.

Written by Kai Elle and produced by Alberto Bof, The Dynamo EP is currently available on iTunes and has a resonating message of hope.

About Yaysh

“I would say my style could be described as if Adele and Kanye had a baby, and Drake was my cousin,” says Yaysh. As brash as that statement is, the singer/rapper can back it up. One spin of her single “Wild One” brings to mind the aforementioned superstars, with producer R8dio setting her pop-encrusted vocal melodies and funky rap verse against a backdrop of stuttering rhythmic patterns. The hip-hop side of her vocal delivery might have been honed on the streets in freestyle ciphers, but “Wild One” proves that Yaysh’s musical style is far more diverse to be pigeonholed into one specific genre tag.

On the personality front, Yaysh is as outspoken as her music is eclectic. “Music these days has become so watered down and almost non-individualized,” says the Boulder, Colorado native. “I have such a big mouth that I need somewhere to put all my vibe, my heart and music is a huge vehicle for that.”

Now based in LA, Yaysh explains why she wants to represent a new kind of sex symbol. “I don’t look like a model but I am sexy, and I’m going to propagate the shit out of that and my open sexuality. I’m kind of ordinary, extra ordinary, but my soul shines so fucking bright that my sexiness is a complete sexiness; rather than just the flesh. I’m sexy because I know myself.”

A bold balance of talent and attitude, Yaysh is the exact musical force the pop landscape needs right now. “I want people to feel free when they hear my music and almost a little embarrassed or stripped cuz my shit is just real and inescapable, magnetic, and delicious.” Music fans will get a chance to envelope themselves in Yaysh’s world when her album drops later in 2016.

About Moving Units

The club lights are low. The dance floor is a sweaty blur of shadows. You can feel the blood and adrenaline surging through the crowd. There’s a band on stage and they are telepathically connected to the audience — making bodies bounce like it was a feat of mind control. This is Moving Units and this is their natural element: unadulterated grooves and constant motion.

Moving Units have bottled this chemistry since their self-titled 2002 EP debut. When Blake Miller first started writing demos and recruiting band mates to help expand his vision, the idea of fusing dance music and indie rock was practically alien. Leading the way along with groups like The Rapture, Franz Ferdinand, The Faint and Bloc Party, Moving Units were at the vanguard of bringing body-rocking grooves to scythe-edged rock & roll. They pioneered a brand of “Dance Punk” that exploded into clubs and radio stations across the globe. “Back then, no one danced at shows in LA. People were trying to play it cool,” Miller says.” We wanted to shake things up and make people boogie.”

Tastes have changed. Members have joined and left the band. But the locomotion inspired by their music remains immutable. Credit the ease with which Miller has merged into contemporary dance culture. A DJ himself, Miller’s remixes with Steve Aoki and Le Castle Vania have earned tons of spins worldwide.

“I’ve never abandoned the concept that a live band can turn out a hot dance party,” Miller says. “It’s about conveying that energy and allowing people to have a visceral and euphoric connection.”

April 8th, 2016 saw the release of the band’s 4th LP, Damage With Care. Miller considers it their most engaging, aggressive and visionary work since the classic Dangerous Dreams LP dropped over a decade ago. The perfect soundtrack for channeling urgent impulses and anxious adventures on a post punk millennial dance floor, the album consists of 10 explosive tracks that wind their way up your spine and into your hearts and minds!

With Damage With Care, Miller says he wanted to invoke a naiveté and passion he felt when he wrote the first LP over a decade ago. Fashion always plays a part when it comes to Moving Units and you can feel it in the groves… everything from Alexander Wang, Vivienne Westwood, Warhol, Basquiat and even Patti Smiths Just Kids biography found ways to influence the look and feel of Damage With Care. With tracks like “Opposite of Rhyming,” Moving Units plaster their past all over the record, while songs like “Wishful Thinking” and “Fragile Magic” melodically wind their way to the dance floor with hooks you can’t shake. “There is a satisfying balance of raw punk influences from the 70’s and 80’s, as well as sexy bass lines and hi-fi production value throughout” says Miller.

About Leah Capelle

Leah Capelle is a stunningly, talented singer/songwriter from Chicago. Her brand of indie rock will stop you in your tracks, and she has certainly amplified her sound in her upcoming EP, Joshua. Capelle has been performing and studying music from a young age. She attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston before moving to the West Coast to pursue music full-time. At that time, she partnered with Grammy winning producer Jeff Bova (Celine Dion, Meatloaf, Blondie) to release her self-titled debut EP, Leah Capelle

In 2015, Capelle finally found a group of immensely talented musicians to form her band and already they have played at SXSW and collaborated with the likes of Rob Lewis, Arden Kaywin, and Pam Sheyne, Capelle is getting ready to release her new EP, Joshua late this summer. The making of this EP was a very intimate experience for the young artist who says that writing it became an outlet for her to express her emotions after experiencing a personal tragedy in 2014. This will be her second EP working with Jeff Bova and aims to be her first time sharing her vulnerabilities through her narratives and discovering her new sound.

Capelle’s band features: Will Wu (lead guitar), Rodrigo Moreno (upright and electric bassist), Hayley Brownell (drums), and Michael O’Grady (guitar).

NEW SG Interview: Chuck Palahniuk — Fight Club 2

by Nicole Powers

“Human beings don’t cultivate ideas.
On the contrary… ideas cultivate us.”
— Dr. Wrong, Fight Club 2

The years haven’t been kind to Sebastian, aka The Narrator, aka the co-founder of Fight Club. Having traded his position as leader of Project Mayhem — an underground organization inspired by the Cacophony Society and its precursor the Suicide Club — for all the trappings of the American dream, Sebastian now has a 9 to 5 job, a wife, a home and a kid, and is the father he vowed he’d never become. Trapped in the mundanity of this seemingly cookie-cutter life, Sebastian seeks solace in his psychiatrist, Dr. Wrong, and the prescription pills he pedals. Meanwhile, Tyler Durden, Sebastian’s stalwartly subversive alter-ego, has been biding his time, plotting his comeback to wreak havoc on a society that is, for the most part, populated by sheep in need of a shepherd, or a surrogate father as writer, mythologist and philosopher Joseph Campbell might say. And thus, a new installment of junior-arsonist-turned-adult-novelist Chuck Palahniuk’s iconic Fight Club begins.

Taking comic book form, the long-awaited and much-anticipated sequel to the original 1996 Fight Club novel (on which David Fincher’s 1999 movie was based) first hit stores in May, 2015. The ten-part series paired Palahniuk’s dialog and plot with art by Cameron Stewart (whose credits include Batman, Batgirl, Catwoman, Assassin’s Creed and SuicideGirls’ own comic series, to name but a few). This sequel was something that Palahniuk resisted for many years. However, ideas sometimes have a life of their own, and this one was pulling Palahniuk back to Project Mayhem’s home on Paper Street. Now, as the series is being collected and bound together as a hardcover graphic novel (out June 28 via Dark Horse Comics), Palahnuik is working on the third installment of an idea, which like Tyler Durden, refuses to die. We caught up with Palahniuk by phone to find out more…

SG Radio feat. Budderside

This Wednesday, September 28 on SuicideGirls Radio, hosts Nicole Powers and Bradley Suicide will be joined by LA hard rockers Budderside, who’ve just released their self-titled debut album. The band may be new, but they have excellent pedigree. Frontman Patrick Stone has done stinks with Adler’s Appetite, Velvet Revolver, and Quiet Riot. And the band’s album was produced by Paul Inder Kilmister (son of Lemmy Kilmister).

About Budderside

Doused in the (street) waters of Los Angeles, California, gritty hard rockers Budderside are fronted by Patrick Stone, who was with the likes of Quiet Riot, Velvet Revolver and Adler’s Appetite before realizing the ultimate dream of his own band and singing his own songs to the world. Enter Michael “The Stoneman” Stone on bass, Rich Sacco on drums and Johnny Santoro, (Still Standing, Rock Sugar) on guitar to form a rock-solid band of brothers with instantly unbreakable bonds.

Budderside’s searing-hot, self-titled debut album, Budderside, was released on September 23, 2016 via Motörhead Music/UDR. To record it, their manager, Todd Singerman of Singerman Entertainment (Motörhead), ensured the band went into Rosewood Strat Studio with producer Paul Inder Kilmister (son of Lemmy Kilmister).

Budderside vocalist Patrick Stone’s drive and verve come from a need to make sense of all life’s challenges – politics, sex, philosophy, rage, love, light, sound, senses – and express them all with one unifying current racing through it all – electricity, and Stone is far from encumbered by any perceived ‘limitations’ of a rock band more than he is empowered by the freedom to explore.

That seeker-spirit sees Budderside go from the thick, thumping, leather-clad rock riffery of “The Envelope” to the ska-tinted mobility of “Ska-Bra” which also features Motörhead’s Phil Campbell on guitar. There’s the bendy, grungy intoxication of “X-Girlfriend,” the big-stage orchestral grandiosity of “Can’t Wrap My Head Around You” and the thicker, space-fuzzy buzz-riff of “Open Relationship”… which all serve to say that whatever sonic broadsword Budderside want to swing, they swing with freedom and verve.

About WASI

Merilou and Jessie teamed up in high school after Merilou booked a show with a non-existent band. Under the moniker The Midol Poppers, they learned their instruments and wrote 30 minutes worth of punk songs that stemmed from the stories of their broken homes and outsider attitude. After their first show, they started writing and rehearsing just to play as often as they could — from high school themed parties to acoustic sets at the park. Without a plan but with a craving to create their own space away from teenage social structures and the norm, the duo recorded their songs at the Fullerton College recording studio and then self-promoted themselves by approaching bystanders with a pair of headphones and their music in hand.

Their debut EP, Bleed Pop, was released May 2015. They have shared the stage with artists such as Shiny Toy Guns, The Mowgli’s and K. Flay, have played select dates on the Vans Warped Tour, have performed at several LGBTQ Pride Festivals throughout the West coast and have been listed as She Wired’s “Top 10 Queer and Female Fronted Bands You Need to Know Right Now.” Live, they are joined by drummer Max Szullozi and guitarist/vocalist Charlie Moon.

Their latest tracks, “Mama’s Gonna Get You” and “Superhero,” were produced by Shelby Archer, Paul Laliberte and Jeff Laliberte from Red Bull Records’ New Beat Fund. WASI continues to garner a loyal following in the LGBTQ and feminist music scenes as they contagiously spread their DIY work ethic, enthusiastic attitude and uplifting melodies, touching those are trying to be understood in their own tender time.
