About Madchild

After many successful years with hip-hop group, Swollen Members, Madchild creatively branched out as a solo artist in 2012 with his debut title track, “Dope Sick.”

The album was well received which earned Madchild the highest chart position of his career — #3 on the Canadian Billboard Top 200 and #7 on the US Heatseekers Chart.

Manchild immediately hit the road on a sold-out Canadian tour with Tech N9ne which was followed-up with a 40-date headlining tour across the country where he performed at sold-out venues to his beloved fans.

Madchild has relentlessly toured with numerous artists such as La Coka Nostra, Tech N9NE, Redman, and many others. His grueling tour schedule over the years has earned him fans in every single city, and to this day, his loyal fan base continues to grow.

As success grew, Madchild’s battle with his personal demons increased. However, with the help of his family, friends, and the unwavering support of his fans, he was able to grab hold of his life and renounced his former lifestyle.

Madchild found complete solace in the arms of his music, and he bunkered down in his home studio, secluded from the outside world, where he had his creative rebirth in crafting some of the best verses of his entire career.

Madchild continues to give back to his community, he speaks at local high schools in British Columbia as well as youth groups surrounding the perils of gang violence and drug addiction. He has helped and continues to inspire countless youth through his music, and community service. Madchild strives to help youth learn a lesson from his mistakes and have a positive impact on their futures.

Madchild currently resides in Los Angeles, CA and continues to release chart-topping music in Canada and Worldwide as well as performing approximately 150+ shows per year.

In 2017 alone, Madchild has completed a 40 show tour in Canada and in April will begin his US dates which will be followed by shows in Europe and Australia. In July, Madchild will team up with the mighty Swollen Members for some select dates in Canada and other special appearances throughout the rest of the year. The first appearance will be at the Canadian Gathering of the Juggalos on April 7th in Calgary.

Swollen Members have been an underground hip-hop anomaly for over a decade with worldwide success, winning 4 Junos Awards and adding a fifth nomination for their Dagger Mouth album. In addition to their Juno awards, the group has also received 7 Much Music Video Awards and 4 Western Canadian Music Awards.

Swollen Members have collectively racked up 35 million views on Youtube, and earned both platinum and gold sales certification for sales of their albums.

They have achieved success by performing worldwide tours with acts such as Ghostface of the Wu-Tang Clan, Nelly Furtado and the Black Eyed Peas. This Wednesday, May 31 on SuicideGirls Radio, hosts Nicole Powers and Bradley Suicide will be joined by Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck of Julien-K, who’ll be taking about their new video, “Mannequin Eyes”, and their blockbusting Indiegogo campaigns — the latest of which has already exceeded their goal and offers fans a 4 disk, 60 song mega package featuring an entire album of unreleased original songs from the past 10 years!

You can listen – and watch – SuicideGirls Radio live on Wednesday nights from 8 til 9 PM at our state-of-the-art, all digital home on zinna.tv.

About Julien-K

Amir Derakh, Ryan Shuck and Anthony “Fu” Valcic have been musical collaborators for 15+ years. During their time together they have weaved in and out of mainstream music like a constantly evolving musical fashion house. In the late ‘90s they were responsible for massive radio and sales hits such as “Blind” (Korn), “Blue Monday”,” Stitches”, and “Fiction” (Orgy), and recently “Crawl Back In” and “Let Down” (Dead By Sunrise with their close friend Chester Bennington). After enjoying years of traditional music business success, they have spent the last decade methodically moving away from the mainstream approach that put them on the map, opting to carefully steer their fans in a new direction, towards their new independent alternative electro rock project Julien-K – which sounds more at home with acts like Depeche Mode, The Kills, Nine Inch Nails, New Order, The Presets, Wild Beasts, The Black Queen, Interpol, Phantogram.

Julien-K has toured the world with the likes of Linkin Park, Evanescence, The Sounds, My Chemical Romance, HIM, Placebo, Filter, Mumiy Troll, and more. Most recently Julien-K headlined the Rock Al Rio Festival in Colombia.

The band has a highly engaged and invested fanbase, having raised over $80,000 via crowdfunding for the expansive double concept album California Noir. The fundraiser was split into 3 campaigns, one for each “chapter” and one for a single / video. The response and growth has been incredible with the last campaign raising over $20,000 in the first few hours and over $43k total making it the 54th most funded music campaign on Indiegogo globally!

California Noir: Chapter Two debuted in the top 40 on iTunes Alternative Charts in the USA, Germany, and many other countries around the globe with ZERO label support — totally organic charting promoted solely by the band and it’s fans around the world.

Julien-K writes, directs, manufactures, produces, and ships all of their records, music videos, and merchandise around the world — and their fans have organically voted their self produced music videos onto MTV and MTV 2 multiple times. Many of Julien-K’s bigger self produced videos have hundreds of thousands of organic views.

SG Radio feat. Grabbitz

This Wednesday, June 7 on SuicideGirls Radio, hosts Nicole Powers and Bradley Suicide will be joined by Grabbitz, who blew us away with an invite-only preview of his live show!

About Grabbitz

Grabbitz is a one-man production powerhouse and rock band with an electronic heartbeart, loyal to no genre and inspired by all. He’s lived many lives in his 24 years on this planet and each Grabbitz song is a piece of his soul — his experiences and emotions wrung out like a wet rag. The result is stunningly authentic, the sort of music that brings universality to the individual’s experience of love and loss while miraculously managing to have a sense of humor.

The debut Grabbitz album Things Change is an alchemic and visceral reaction to the loss of the most important person in his life, a trip into the belly of the beast on his personal hero’s journey. He’s the sort of artist who’s creating all the time, so the temptation to stay in the woods of western New York and make music just for himself was great. Grabbitz made the choice to “Play This Game.” You can hear his frustration in the grindy guitar riff and fat bassline that opens the track and his desperation to cling to love of any sort on the hybrid pulsating drumstep ballad “Don’t Let Me Go.” He finally loosens his grip on reality and surrenders to the certainty of a pop progression on “i think that i might be going crazy” – and those are just the first few songs of a twelve track album.

It’s a good thing music is therapy for Grabbitz because he’s responsible for every single aspect of his songs, from writing to production to performance. Hot off the release of his track with deadmau5 “Let Go,” his live show debuted in his hometown Buffalo, NY with a guitarist (Sullivan King) and drummer (Morillo) in May. He’s probably the only artist to ever be compared to both Trent Reznor and Eminem in the same breath (by Billboard) so the unleashing of his full live performance means the pressure is on.

About Hollis Brown

Hollis Brown is an American rock & roll band. Named after a Bob Dylan song, “The Ballad of Hollis Brown”, the band was formed by Queens-natives and songwriters Mike Montali (lead vocals/guitar) and Jonathan Bonilla (lead guitar). Both second-generation immigrants (Italian-American and Puerto Rican-American, respectively), they soon found their musical brethren across America, recruiting Andrew Zehnal (drums) from Cleveland, Adam Bock (keyboard/vocals) from St. Louis, and Brian Courage (bass) from Long Island.

The independent act has achieved a significant amount of success since their formation in 2009.  They released their debut album Ride On The Train on Alive Naturalsound in 2013 (produced by Adam Landry), garnering song and video premieres from Rolling Stone, Paste, and American Songwriter, along with music placements in the worldwide trailer for the Michael Keaton film The Founder, the Willem Dafoe/Matt Dillon film Bad Country, Direct TV’s Kingdom, Showtime’s Shameless, MTV’s Real World, and an online ad campaign for Abercrombie & Fitch. Following a Lou Reed tribute concert in NYC, Alive Naturalsound asked the band to record a tribute to the Velvet Underground’s classic album Loaded, as a limited-edition vinyl release for Record Store Day 2014. Hollis Brown Gets Loaded took on a life of its own, with airplay on influential radio stations, resulting in a full CD & digital release.

Hollis Brown’s current single “Run Right To You” was released on 7” vinyl in October 2016 on Velvet Elk/One Little Indian records. Their song “Steady Ground” is a featured exclusive on Amazon’s playlist Amazon Acoustics. The band’s vinyl EP, Cluster of Pearls (Alive Naturalsound Records), was chosen as one of the 300 select releases throughout the world for Record Store Day 2016. Pressed on Starburst Vinyl, the record is limited to 800 copies and features four previously unreleased tracks and two songs released on vinyl for the first time. It was released digitally on iTunes in August 2016. Cluster of Pearls follows up the 2015 release of Hollis Brown’s third album 3 Shots (Jullian Records/RED), featuring the Bo Diddley collaboration “Rain Dance,” and the duet “Highway 1” with acclaimed alt-country songstress Nikki Lane.

The band has toured extensively in America and Europe, headlining and supporting such bands as The Zombies, Jackie Greene, Heartless Bastards, Rich Robinson of Black Crowes, and Jesse Malin, and building an impressive fan base on both continents. The edgy, roots-rock indie band from Queens, NY, known for its adrenaline fueled performances, wrapped 40+ amphitheater shows across America supporting Counting Crows and Citizen Cope in 2015, followed by a month-long  headline tour in the UK and Europe. Last summer/fall, the band embarked on a headlining tour across the US and Europe, including performances at Firefly Music Festival, WFPK “Live Lunch,”  Audiotree, and Studio 10 Live. This summer Hollis Brown will be touring across the US including stops at Mountain Jam, Karoondinha Festival, and more.

About Brad Byrd

LA based indie-rock/alt-country singer/songwriter Brad Byrd is back with his first full length LP, Highest Mountain, in almost 6 years. 10 tracks that tell a story about leaving Los Angeles and heading out in the wilderness to tour and rediscover himself as not only an artist but a person. The record talks about moving home to be with his sick mother, his own battle with drug and alcohol addiction, and finding his voice and sound by reconnecting with his roots. For fans of Wilco, Joseph Arthur, Kurt Vile, Nada Surf, Pete Yorn, and Ryan Adams this record will not disappoint.

Byrd’s catalog has been featured (most recently) on ABC’s American Housewife, Happy Endings, FOX’s New Girl and Ben & Kate, amongst dozens of other film/tv placements throughout the years. His songs have charted on major radio stations and he has consistently toured the country developing a small but loyal following sharing the stage with fellow alt rockers such as Jay Farrar (Son Volt), Mike Doughty, Family of the Year, and Willy Mason to name a few.

He’ll be hitting this road this summer and fall, with tour dates kicking off on July 21.

About Abby Martin

After graduating from San Diego State University, Abby Martin founded Media Roots, a platform for citizen journalists, in 2009. While working as a citizen journalist covering Occupy, her fearless reports from the front lines of the embattled occupation in Oakland brought her to the attention of RT News, where she began working as a correspondent.

Her reports for the station offered a perspective on the movement that was all but censored by the mainstream media, who were threatened both by the anti-capitalist sentiment of Occupy Wall Street and by the rise of the citizen journalists it brought to the fore. A year after Occupy began, in September 2012, Abby began hosting her own highly respected show, Breaking The Set. In 2015, she left RT to focus on investigative journalism, launching The Empire Files which can been seen via TeleSUR.

When she’s not risking her life in far flung corners of the globe to speak truth to power and shed light on that which the powers-that-be would rather remain in the shadows, Abby works as an artist — a practice which she views as a “way to interpret the ugly truths in the world and reflect a better future.”

About Plastic Jesus

Plastic Jesus is a Los Angeles based street artist that specialises in bold stencil and installation work, inspired by world news events, society, the urban environment, culture, and politics. His critically acclaimed work combines humor, irony, criticism and unique opinion to create art that engages on many levels.

Often questioning the norms in society, Plastic Jesus confronts our compliance of culture and current affairs. The artist uses scale and contradiction as a means to highlight issues and opinions that often go unquestioned. The aesthetic appeal of his work combined with the engagement produces an addictive mix that challenges our acceptance.

Plastic Jesus is not about revolution, he is not an anarchist but would like to see some changes around the place. His work is more about shining a small light into some of those dark corners of society. Prior to his commitment to produce provocative street art Plastic Jesus has worked for over two decades as a photographer and photojournalist.

About Cuco

Cuco is an 18-year old self-produced Chicano singer out of Los Angeles, CA — specifically the city of Hawthorne. Cuco, born Omar Banos, first began playing music at the age of 8 years old. After teaching himself how to use Ableton, Cuco was eager to start independently releasing his own music once finishing high school. In 2016, Cuco released his first mixtape Wannabewithu — a collection of teenage heartbreak over abstract chords, lo fi synths, ambient guitars, punchy drums, and lead trumpets that resonated with thousands of music lovers everywhere. Mere months later, Cuco welcomed his newfound fans, or “Cuco Pebbles,” with a follow up mixtape Songs4u (2017). Having only played SoCal DIY house shows from September of 2016 to March of 2017, Cuco was shocked to sell out his first four venue headline shows at the Hi-Hat in Highland Park, the Constellation Room in Santa Ana, The Smell in Downtown Los Angeles, and Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco. With more shows and festivals already lined up for 2017, it’s looking like a life-altering year for Hawthorne’s Cuco.

About Sage Gallon

Sage Gallon is a painter, photographer and spoken word artist from New York, living and working in Los Angeles. Born in Long Island, Sage started drawing before he could write and acting before he could spell. His art emulates from his unique ability to see beauty in everything.

Sage Gallon was born in Long Island. He spent his formative years living in a Commune in Northern California. In ’79 he and his mother moved to Harlem where his mother enrolled him in a Catholic school… That didn’t turn out well. They then moved to Hempstead, NY in the spring of ’79 where he grew up.

Everyone has challenges and dark times — and Sage is no different. Sage spent 10 years living on the streets, park benches, subway and train stations of NY, DC and LA battling an addiction much stronger than he, and doing unspeakable things to feed it. But he never begged and he never robbed anyone. That experience taught Sage love for those who save and for those who suffer, strength, how to see beauty in the ugly crevices, and empathy — tools that are vital to his approach to photography, poetry and art as well as how he endeavors to live.

“I started shooting because I inherited a very expensive camera in 2012 that I didn’t know how to turn on. I fell in love with this art form instantly. I have not attended any of the prestigious film schools or expensive classes, I’m a ‘hit that button and see what happens’ kinda guy. Besides I’m an artist and the prospect of student loans suck,” says Sage.

In December of 2013 Sage picked up his paint brushes again and went to work. His paintings have been hung by private collectors from Tasha Smith, Mattie Lawson to Terez Thorp, and Monifah to Robert Downy Jr. Sage’s work has also been seen in galleries across the country including Art Basel in 2015. Sage is currently Artist in Residence at the Los Angeles Dysonna City Art Gallery.

In January of 2014, Sage was named as one of the 40 Black Artist to watch by NBC. He was interviewed by Huffington Post the same month about his “Crack(s)” series… Not bad for a guy who was once homeless — right?

Sage self-published a book of poetry, Naked Under My Clothes. His debut CD, which shared the same name, was released in 2015. The album is a heart-retaking, erotic, sensual, and honest journey that takes the listener through childhood pains to addiction, from love to self-realization and spiritual evolution. He is currently developing a one man stage performance, based around the book and album, which is due to premiere this year.

“I Can’t say that I have won any awards, YET, but I do have the gift of life — shooting, painting, creating, sharing and loving what I do. Art, in all its forms, is a spiritual experience a communion between a higher power and artist, artist and audience, and all back to the higher power. I am happy to share me with you and hope you enjoy. Peace.”

SG Radio feat. Gridline

This Wednesday, Sept 13 on SuicideGirls Radio, hosts Nicole Powers and Bradley Suicide will be joined by NYC-based, funk/jam band Gridline.

You can listen – and watch – SuicideGirls Radio live on Wednesday nights from 8 til 9 PM at our state-of-the-art, all digital home on zinna.tv.

About Gridline

Five years in the making, Gridline continues to captivate audiences with their high-octane blend of funk, soul, and rock and roll. Their upcoming full-length debut album, Soul Brew, is a culminating snapshot of a live band in motion. The eight original songs on the record were developed over years of performing late night sets as the house band of NYC’s historic club, The Bitter End. The album also features notable contributions from established members of the extended Gridline family, including vocalist Corey Glover (Living Colour), Kim Miller (The Skatalites), Joel Thome (Frank Zappa), Mike Soprano (Streetlight Manifesto), and the Scorchio Quartet (David Bowie).

Founded in New York in 2012, kindred spirits Dan Kottmann (guitars, lead vocals) and Andrew Yanchyshyn (bass, vocals) found common ground on their local college music scene at SUNY Purchase. Together, they formed a band and caught attention through organizing and headlining DIY psychedelic sets at campus venues that they converted for live performances. After years of East Coast touring and lineup changes, the group has expanded to include Syracuse musician Neal Spitzer (saxophones, EWI), a tour-de-force on the saxophone and in the writing studio, Zach Schepis (guitars vocals), the missing lyrical link that now bonds them together, and recently, the addition of powerhouse Queens-based drummer Dorsey “Sky” Parker.

Featured in Relix Magazine as up-and-coming artists, the band has been nationally recognized as something of a rarity in today’s music scene. With members of varying ages and experiences, each musician contributes to a diverse sound that is equal parts energetic and refined. The band has opened for artists such as Iggy Azalea, Galactic, Max Creek, Kung Fu, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, and The Nigel Hall Band, and continues to set their sights higher and higher.

Stay tuned for the September 2017 release of Soul Brew, with tour dates and more announcements to follow.

About Ben Hazlewood

Ben Hazlewood is a fiercely independent singer and songwriter who has the experience of someone twice his age, and a broad love of music that makes his own something timeless and wholly distinctive amidst a sea of aspiring voices.

Hazlewood’s EP, Vanta, was released on June 3rd, 2016 and featured the singles “Wanted” and “Paint Me Black ft. Mali Koa Hood”. Tracks from the EP were also featured in a series of live recordings from Ocean Way in Nashville which earned Hazlewood the acclaim of “one of the best vocal performances of the entire decade” from PopDust.

Ben’s follow up EP, EOS, premiered on Purevolume on May 4th, 2017. The Australia-based singer views the two EPs as a collective album.

“Eos is the Greek goddess of dawn. The theme behind these two EPs is it’s always darkest before the dawn,” says Hazlewood. “The instrumentals and lyrics throughout Eos highlight the hope and peace in an otherwise dark and desperate place. There is always some light to hold on to no matter how faint it is.”

SG Radio feat. Brendon Small

This Wednesday, October 11 on SuicideGirls Radio, host Bradley Suicide will be joined by the mastermind behind the massive metal band Dethklok, Brendon Small, who’ll be talking about his new album, Galaktikon II: Become The Storm.

You can listen – and watch – SuicideGirls Radio live on Wednesday nights from 8 til 9 PM at our state-of-the-art, all digital home on zinna.tv.

For updates on all things SG Radio-related, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter and Instagram.

About Brendon Small / Dethklok

Brendon Small – the mastermind behind massive metal band Dethklok and albums The Dethalbum (the highest-charting death metal album ever on the Billboard Top 200 chart), Dethalbum II, Dethalbum III and Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem — has been teasing a new chapter of his popular Galaktikon saga for months. After spending the past two years writing and recording new material and dropping random hints throughout the media and at appearances, the wait is over.

This year, marking the 10 year anniversary of his breakout Dethklok release, The Dethalbum, Brendon Small will reveal his upcoming high-stakes intergalactic extreme rock/metal album, Galaktikon II: Become The Storm, to the masses. The album will be released via physical and digital retailers on August 25, 2017 (Megaforce Records/MRI), with digital pre-orders set to become available Friday, June 2.

Galaktikon II: Become The Storm follows the space-age theme of 2012’s original Galaktikon album, with a conceptual storyline and a heavier, darker, more brutal sound. In addition to Brendon Small on vocals and guitar, the new album will feature acclaimed musicians and Dethklok alum Bryan Beller (bass/The Aristocrats, Dweezil Zappa, Steve Vai) and Gene Hoglan (drums/Testament, Death, Dark Angel). Galaktikon II: Become The Storm was co-produced by Small and Grammy-nominated producer/engineer Ulrich Wild, who also worked behind the board on the Dethklok albums.

With these names behind the project, it should come as no surprise that Galaktikon II: Become The Storm is a welcomed transformation and expansion of the sound that put Brendon Small on the musical map. With uncapped time and creativity on their side, Small & Co. were able to reach above and beyond what fans have come to expect as of now. Galaktikon II: Become The Storm proves to be Small’s most commanding release yet.

“This record is a combination of all the sounds I’ve been making throughout my creative life,” says Brendon Small. “It’s as heavy as I want it to be and melodic as I want it to be — it’s the bigger, darker record I wanted to hear. And what a way to celebrate my 10 year anniversary of making metal with Gene, Bryan and Ulrich, some of the best in the industry. I’m excited to have it live inside listeners’ heads and let their imaginations take over!”

Fans should anticipate plenty of early tidbits, such as track leaks and videos, leading up to the release of Galaktikon II: Become The Storm, so stay tuned!

Elsewhere in the universe of Brendon Small, Albatross Funnybooks recently announced GALAKTIKON!, a six-issue series of comic books launching this August based on the original Galaktikon album. The series will be written by Brendon Small and five-time Eisner Award winner and Albatross founder Eric Powell. Powell will also be contributing cover art with interior art by Steve Mannion of Fearless Dawn and Spook House. More details coming soon!

For Your Consideration — FREE Screening & Q&A on Oct 15 in DTLA

Join us this coming Monday, October 15, for the Los Angeles premiere of For Your Consideration Movie, a short film documentary which tells the story behind Plastic Jesus and Ginger’s “Casting Couch” installation.

"For Your Consideration" Trailer from Patrick Green on Vimeo.

The life-sized statue, which appeared on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in time for the 90th Academy Awards earlier this year, took aim at Harvey Weinstein and the culture of cover up that allowed sexually predatory and abusive behavior — as brought to task by the #MeToo movement — to permeate Tinsel Town on a massive scale.

“Casting Couch” by Plastic Jesus and Ginger

The event, which runs from 7.30 til 9.30 PM at LA’s Downtown Independent, and will include a panel discussion after the screening with artists Plastic Jesus and Ginger, #MeToo activist Dawn Dunning, and filmmaker Patrick Green. The panel will be moderated by journalist, activist, and SGR host Nicole Powers. The event is FREE. Reserve your tickets HERE.

About For Your Consideration

Harvey Weinstein unexpectedly crept back into Hollywood just in time for the 90th Academy Awards. Los Angeles-based street artist Plastic Jesus teamed up with sculptor Ginger to create “Casting Couch”, a golden statue of the disgraced movie producer, clad in matching bathrobe and slippers, sitting on a chaise lounge, while provocatively holding an Academy Award trophy.

Directed by filmmaker Patrick Green, For Your Consideration follows the making of the “Casting Couch” with exclusive footage that details the blood, sweat, and duct tape it takes to make a built-to-scale street art installation which conveys a bigger than life-sized message:

“For many years the exploitation of many hopefuls and established names in the industry was brushed under the carpet with their complaints of harassment and sexual abuse being ignored or worse,” says Plastic Jesus. “Hopefully, now in the light of recent allegations against many leading figures in Hollywood the industry will clean up its act.”

The 20 minute documentary explores the reaction to the satirical, thought-provoking art piece, which went viral and was covered by Time, Vice, Vogue, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and all the major domestic broadcast networks and many worldwide. The installation also featured on countless social media timelines just as the Las Vegas-based Ginger had hoped:

“The whole concept was for it to be an interactive art piece. Everyone wants a selfie, everyone wants to be part of the experience, but this isn’t about grabbing headlines, we wanted to have a message behind it.”

For Your Consideration also tracks how activist art like the “Casting Couch” can affect culture through interviews with Dawn Dunning (one of the original women to speak out about her encounter with Weinstein), feminist street artist MegZany, and right-wing guerrilla artist Sabo.

The Harvey Weinstein “Casting Couch” is the second collaboration between Ginger (best known for his naked Donald Trump sculptures) and Plastic Jesus, a former photojournalist turned pop culture provocateur, whose annual Oscar’s art pieces (coke snorting Oscar, False Idol Kanye West) have become as much a part of Academy Awards season as Hollywood’s elite pandering for golden trophies.
